welcome to the principality of sealand

so apparently forming your own country isn’t just for Branch Dividian secessionists or imaginative 12 year olds. according to a recent article in the Smithsonian (which is a big museum, so it must be legit), the ‘micronation’ is a concept that dates back hundreds of years but is still relevant and active today. one particularly interesting but uncreatively titled MN mentioned in the piece is the ‘Principality of Sealand,’ a self-declared independent state that exists on an island fortress 6 miles off the coast of the  UK. Yes, an island fortress. Kind of like ‘The Rock’ but full of hippies and pinkos.  Sealand’s founders may have shown ingenuity in maintaining their radical politics, but they could have benefitted from more innovative branding. Or maybe they’re literalness was intentional. Regardless, they have a website because that’s how Y2K they are:
